Abstract

IIn this book, the author refers to what migration from Mexico to the United States
has been like from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st. It divides
this chronologically into six stages, describing the social, economic and political
context of each one, as well as the characteristics of the migrants.
In 1884, the railroad networks of Mexico and the United States were connected, which
began the migration phenomenon. We must not forget that the USA is the leading
world power, so despite the advantages obtained in the relationship with respect to
the migration phenomenon, as well as in other binational issues, relations have
always been asymmetrical, and have not been exempt from interventionism and US
ambitions.
The causes of the departure of Mexican workers are diverse and have varied, but we
can mention wars, violence generated by crime, rural poverty, high birth rate,
deterioration of agricultural activities, imbalances between rural and urban
activities, economic crises, regional inequality, impunity, low income, minimum
benefits, no access to credit, unworthy salaries, among others
