Abstract

Introduction: Folk dance, despite its profound cultural value, demands high physical performance that exposes dancers to musculotendinous injuries. This article presents a preventive physiotherapy program as a key tool to reduce these risks and optimize stage performance. Objective: To determine the effect of a physiotherapeutic intervention on injury risk, evaluated using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), in dancers from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) Folkloric Company. Material and Methods: A study with a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental (pre-test/post-test) design without a control group, using non-probability convenience sampling and a finite sample of folklore dancers aged between 18 and 40 years. A self-developed sociodemographic questionnaire, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), and an exercise program focused on mobility, strength, and flexibility applied over six weeks were utilized. Results: The sample consisted of 23 dancers. A 73% reduction in the number of participants at high risk of injury was observed, with a mean difference of 2.4 ± 2 points in the FMS evaluations performed before and after the intervention. Conclusion: The physiotherapeutic intervention was associated with improvements in FMS scores, suggesting an optimization of movement patterns in the dancers. These findings support the importance of implementing programs that promote movement quality in this population.
