Introduction: Preoperative anxiety is a subjective and unpleasant sensation linked to concerns about illness, hospitalization, anesthesia, and surgery. Its incidence ranges from 60% to 80% in the general population and from 11% to 80% in older adults. Anxiety can affect all aspects of anesthesia, from the preoperative period to recovery. The Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) was used to measure anxiety levels. Objective: To determine whether presenting an informational video reduces preoperative anxiety. Methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted with patients scheduled for trauma and orthopedic surgery at HGZ No. 1. Variables analyzed included type of surgery, educational level, ASA classification, age, and gender. The APAIS scale was applied to a group that received the informational video and a control group. Results: The video reduced preoperative anxiety by 50% (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Its implementation in pre-anesthetic consultation enhances the patient’s emotional preparedness.
