Abstract

Background: In classical dance dancers, there is a greater possibility of developing risk behaviors that can cause an eating behavior disorder (ED) due to the demands of the rehearsals and the type of clothing used in the presentations. Objective: To determine the risk behaviors for the presentation of eating disorders in people who practice classical dance in Aguascalientes. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study of 31 classical dancers between the ages of 15 and 25 years old, we applied the risk eating behavior questionnaire (CAR), the eating disorders examination – Questionnaire (S-EDE-Q) and the ORTO-15, as well as the 24-hour diet recall to evaluate the dietary intake. Results: The prevalence for concern of the silhouette was 25.8% (n = 8) and for the concern of weight was 22.6% (n = 7). With the ORTO-15, 51.6% of the participants reported orthorexia behaviors, with the S-EDE-Q 12.9% were suspicious for an ED, and with CAR the 29% were at risk of presenting an ED. When comparing the classification of the questionnaires we found that the S-EDE-Q and the CAR test were comparable (p = 0.059) to detect the presence of an ED. The 24-hour diet recall report a low energy and carbohydrate intake. Conclusions: 51.6% of the study population presented orthorexia behaviors and 12.69% of the participants presented a risk for the development of an eating disorder; which could have an impact on the modification of eating habits.
