Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text is double-spaced; 12 point font size; italics are used instead of underlining (except in URLs); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed in the appropriate places in the text, rather than at the end.
  • The submission has not been previously published or submitted for consideration by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF or WordPerfect format.
  • Wherever possible, URLs are provided for references.
  • PreferencesThe text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements summarized in the Author's guidelines, appearing in About the magazine.
  • If submitted to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, instructions should be followed in ensuring anonymous evaluation.

Guidelines for authors

As part of the submission process, it is imperative that authors check that their submission meets all of the elements shown below. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to authors.

 

The process is carried out on the OJS platform, so it is necessary for the author to REGISTER on our online submission site, with emails to which they have constant access for the attention of the editorial process; as well as continuously checking the unwanted or spam folder; as notification emails from Lux Médica may be directed to these.

For the selection of articles, the general criteria for publication will be the scientific soundness of the work, originality, topicality and timeliness of the information.

Articles proposed for publication in the journal LUX MÉDICA must be original and must not have been previously published in any of its versions and must not be simultaneously proposed for publication in another journal.

An authenticity analysis will be generated by means of an anti-plagiarism tool. The results must necessarily be below 20% excluding bibliographies, if it is above this percentage, it will be rejected.

Two files will be uploaded in the submission: Author information and Manuscript (the specifications for each are described in the FILES section).

 

FILES

  • Files must be sent in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF or WordPerfect format and MUST be typed.
  • Font size 12, Times New Roman, double-spaced, italics used instead of underlining (except for URLs).
  • Pages numbered at the bottom right.
  • Document margins should be normal (top and bottom 2.5 cm and left and right 2.5 cm).

It is mandatory to fulfill these requirements prior to review

 

AUTHOR INFORMATION

Document that includes in a table the name of all authors, their ORCID ID, e-mail, place of affiliation and academic degree, indicating the corresponding author with an asterisk.

Manuscript

No author information is included in the manuscript for the purpose of blinded review.

Title in English and Spanish, concise and relevant.

Resumen/Abstract. Abstracts should summarize the content of the article in 250 words or less. The abstract should be structured in the following format:

  • in one or two sentences, summarize the scientific body of knowledge surrounding your study and how this led to your research.
  • Objective: State the theory(s) you are trying to prove or disprove with your study or the purpose if no hypothesis exists.
  • Methods: Summarize the general methods you used in your research. Include the study population, the type of intervention, the method of data collection and the duration of the study.
  • Results: Report the most important results of your study. Only include positive or negative results that are statistically significant. Report actual data, not just p-values.
  • Conclusion: State the answer to your original question or hypothesis. Summarize the most important conclusions that can be drawn directly from your study.

Key words. Include 3 to 6 keywords for the manuscript (in Spanish at the end of the Resumen and in English at the end of the Abstract).

 Body (text) of the article

Original articles, reviews, updates, follow the standard IMRDC format (Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion), for writing scientific articles. The author is responsible for all statements made in the paper, including proofreader's changes which the author will have the opportunity to check.

 

Case study, title, abstract (background, case presentation, conclusion) in English and Spanish, keyword, introduction, case presentation, discussion and conclusion, patient perspective (optional), ethical aspects, bibliographical references.

Authors with limited fluency in English should have the article proofread or edited by a native English speaker to ensure clear presentation of the English sections of the paper.

Papers involving human or animal subjects should include a statement of approval from the relevant committees in the paper, as well as stating whether or not informed consent was obtained or not should be considered, if necessary, a copy of the project approval letter will be requested.

Figures and tables.

Figures and tables (maximum six between them) should appear in the body of the article near the place where they are mentioned and should be cited in numerical order of appearance in the text.

Any material submitted with an article that has been reproduced from another source (i.e. previously copyrighted) must comply with current copyright regulations. It is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission for the reproduction of copyrighted material and to provide the editorial office with such documentation before the material is reproduced in the Journal.

Tables should have minimum horizontal lines only to make possible easy reading. They must have a title at the top with Arabic numerals and they must also be mentioned before being shown in the text and the table must be editable (word or excel format).

Figures must have a figure footnote indicating the title and text of the figure; in composite images, indicate each one with an indent. Graphics or images that require explanation should be placed in the figure caption after the title and if you have a reference to the information, place it there.

High resolution images (PNG, TIFF, JPEG) should also be uploaded after their mention in an appropriate manner.

 

References

They must be double-spaced in order of appearance and numbered. With the exception of review articles, references should be limited to 60. If references are not in proper order and formatted correctly, the uploaded file will be REJECTED and must be resubmitted with the references in the correct form. Use the VANCOUVER format.

Example:

In the text it will be indicated as follows: Example: The state of homeostasis is vital in the organism1.

 

Prior to acceptance of an article

Each article must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published and that it will not be submitted simultaneously to other publications before the decision of the editorial board is known.

Post-acceptance of an article

Once the article has been reviewed, if it is accepted, authors will be asked to fill in a Declaration of Originality and Copyright Assignment to the Lux Médica Journal, which can be downloaded from the following link: Formato de originalidad y cesión de derechos.  Classification of articles and journal sections

 The following types of articles will be accepted:

Original articles: These are reports of research related to the field of medicine and public healthcare, must be unpublished and prepared in accordance with the aforementioned standards. They can be reports of new syndromes or diseases, etiological aspects, clinical experiences, therapeutic trials, epidemiological or methodological research and basic studies with clinical repercussions. Their length should be between 2000 and 3500 words in the main text, excluding title, summary, abstract, references, tables and figures.

 Updates or reviews: This refers to the most complete and up-to-date analysis possible on a topic in the field of healthcare. It should be a detailed and critical appraisal of relevant experiences in these areas, preferably on basic or clinical topics. Review articles should contain an introduction, development of the topic, discussion and conclusions. It requires at least 30 bibliographical references. Its length should be between 3000 and 4000 words in the main text, excluding title, summary, abstract, references, tables and figures.

 Clinical case: These are articles presenting isolated cases or small groups of patients, with different or uncommon pathologies. Its length is up to two thousand words, 10-15 references maximum and 2 tables plus figures. It can be extended if it involves more than a single case. Its length should be between 1000 and 1500 words in the main text, excluding title, summary, abstract, references, tables and figures.

 From the classrooms: Aimed at students of the different biomedical careers, both undergraduate and postgraduate, who must accompany their work with the supervision and/or advice of any accredited physician. Preferably, literature reviews or research projects of local impact will be accepted. Their length should be between 2000 and 3500 words in the main text, excluding title, summary, abstract, references, tables and figures.

 Medical Ars: A space dedicated to writers and artists, members or not of the medical community, who may contribute texts and artistic works that contribute to improving the healthcare culture of the community. The different format and its quality as a detachable dossier are intended for wide dissemination beyond the area of strictly medical interest.

IMPORTANT: if the initial manuscript needs changes, do not make a new registration, the modified document will be uploaded over the previous registration.

NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS AND RESPECT THE JOURNAL'S GUIDELINES, AS WELL AS THE PROPER FORMAT FOR TABLES, FIGURES AND REFERENCES, THE ARTICLE WILL NOT PROCEED TO PEER REVIEW AND WILL BE REJECTED.
