Abstract

In this paper I try to examine Armstrong›s answer to the question of what the truthmakers are for negative existential sentences and universally quantified sentences. This analysis will be critical as I try to show that Armstrong›s answer is insufficient to deal accurately with the problem of the negative existential and universally quantified sentences. I also try to show that this situation lead to a breakdown of the truthmaker maximalism project, that is to say, this situation leads to a breakdown of the truthmaker axiom, as Armstrong›s answer is the best maximalist available answer to the problem of the ontological ground of the negative existential and universal quantified sentences.
