Abstract

The interaction between cultures and societies with different languages implies the emergence of bilingualism phenomena, which in the case of the ethnography ‘‘perceptions of Spanish-English Code-Switching in Juárez, México ’’ (1980) are perceived negatively. This is due to the social connotations associated with the conception of the economic and cultural ‘‘superiority’’ of the United States and the desire to preserve its own culture and language. Linguistically, there is a greater acceptance of code-switching since complete clauses are alternated and in code-mixing there is insertion of words that is interpreted as a more abrupt change in the Spanish code.
