Abstract

Introduction: Active learning methodologies are characterized by generating significant learning in students, such methodologies are diverse and can be developed in a face-to-face and virtual way, with the purpose to encourage students to play an active role in their learning. Objective: To know the experiences of nursing students with the management of active learning methodologies, for their incorporation into undergraduate curricula. Methods: The study was a narrative literature review, the databases and search engines used to collect the information were EBSCO Host, PubMed, LILACS, and Google Scholar, using Boolean operators and search filters. A total of 52 articles were retrieved, out of which 20 articles were selected. Results: The interaction and cognitive processes in active learning stimulate the development of effective communication, personal human relations, teamwork, comprehension, memory, acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of theoretical and practical knowledge in nursing students. Conclusion: The active learning methodologies that generate greater experiences are those that promote human interaction and real situations in various health environments; they also develop critical-scientific thinking, skills, and abilities in the four human knowledge realms. Therefore, the incorporation of the methodologies in the study programs at the different levels of training will generate significant learning in nursing students.
