Abstract

The study aims to describe the training needs that teachers have in the classroom when giving their attention to their Maya students. It was made through a descriptive qualitative approach in three public institutions of higher education in the Middle East of Yucatan. The techniques for collecting data used were the semi-structured interviews and the focus group. The main findings are focused on the need of teachers to design strategies to diagnose Maya students, increase their mastery of the Mayan language, focus their training and updating in the area of education, and guide them to work in the role of tutors in themes associated with the needs of Mayan students.
