Abstract

In order to maintain the work of the economy on a large scale that helps to reduce the construction costs, Mexican builders t end to produce low cost housing in massive production It is built in a conventional way and is focused on workers with medium and high income. Despite the fact that these houses are provided with the mínimum of the quality establ ished by the corresponding
institutions wh ich offer housing credits, the purchasers seem to continue being dissatisfied with these mass-produced houses that scarcely satisfy their likes and needs. In order to identify the current housing market demand in Mexico, the authors of this work visited sorne housing developments located in Aguascalientes City and interviewed sorne of the owners . As a result, it was found that most of them had modified "significantly" their new home du e to the lack of personalization in the design at the time of buying. Thus. this study presents a propasal for a "massive personalized design" with the purpose of linking the needs of massive housing production by balancing the sale prices with the needs of a personalized design able to satisfy the market demand. Besides. this research examines the potential effects of this new propasal in the low cost housing provision schemes in Mexico.
