Abstract

The present text is an approximation to the conditions of agricultural work in Aguascalientes in the first decades of this century. It is not about making history of the ejido property but of the small private property assumed as a productive model by President Plutarco Elias Calles. After the revolution of 1910, the power vacuum left by the hacienda was immediately occupied by the federal government, that laid the foundations for a new system of agrarian domination and agricultural production. The proposal for the modernization of agriculture sought to overthrow the latifundista control by supporting small landowners and ejidatarios; the control of irrigation water played a fundamental role. The presidential discourse and the real conditions were combined in the valley, originating the project of agricultural modernity of the 30's in Aguascalientes.
