Tobacco consumption is considered a public health problem both internationally and nationally. Today is one of the first preventable causes of death in the world and Mexico is part of this reality. This has led to develop public politics and interventions aimed to prevent and eliminate the consumption of tobacco in the population and in this effort to address policies the problem has found that there are differences between men and women regarding the characteristics to leave and relapse in consumption. However, despite efforts in recent years, consumption has increased among women, so it is necessary to establish specific strategies for this population. Among the factors that have been highlighted are hormonal factors, negative affect, symptoms of depression, anxiety, severity of symptoms of withdrawal and consumer expectations. Although there are characteristic interventions, so far they have been aimed at general population, although there are characteristics that differentiate men from women and influence treatment success, being a necessary exploding field. Therefore, this research aims to conduct a review of the literature where it has been reported that there are specific variables on women that affect abandonment and relapse in consumption of tobacco, with a view to proposing specific intervention strategies for this population. To this end, bases like MedLine, PsycINFO and PubMed data were consulted between the years 2006-2015.Downloads
